Eugene Maurakis spent 25 years as the chief scientist at the Science Museum of Virginia. But at one point, he started thinking about family stories and favorite recipes, so he decided to write — and illustrate — a cookbook.
Maurakis spoke to Morning Edition host Phil Liles about his new cookbook, Foods Are Memories, his favorite Greek recipes and the ways that food fosters connection between people.
Checking in on Virginia’s Olympians at the 2024 Paris Summer Games

Out of nearly 600 athletes competing for Team USA in the Paris Olympics, 15 call Virginia their home, including four athletes from Central Virginia. How are Virginia’s athletes doing so far in this Olympics? There are already some athletes who’ve medaled in their events, including UVA student and Arlington resident Torri Huske, who took home a gold medal earlier this week.
