‘Go big’: Kamras presents 5-year RPS strategic plan
Reported by VPM News’ Keyris Manzanares

Richmond Public Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras presented the first draft of the division’s new strategic plan, laying out “an ambitious list of goals meant to help every RPS student pursue their dreams.”

Kamras outlined several “big bets” to help the district reach its goals — including an expansion of the RPS200 program, which extends the school year by beginning classes in mid-July, to all elementary schools.

RPS is accepting feedback on the draft plan until Aug. 19 by email at [email protected]. The plan will be revised, based on the public’s feedback, and presented to the school board on Aug. 20.

Hanover school board to decide on whether trans athlete can play girls tennis
Reported by VPM News’ Whitney Evans

Judge M. Hannah Lauck, of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, pushed back a hearing — in anticipation of the school board’s decision — on the ACLU of Virginia’s motion to stop Hanover schools from again barring Janie from playing on the girls’ team.

Attorneys for Hanover said in court documents that motion is premature because it was filed in anticipation of Hanover denying Janie’s request.
