Hanover historic group takes Wegmans lawsuit to appeal
Reported by VPM News’ Lyndon German
Brown Grove Historic District residents are seeking relief from the alleged adverse traffic, noise and environmental impacts after the county approved construction of a 1-million-sq.-ft. distribution center in the heart of the historic Black community in 2020.
The initial lawsuit against the development was filed in 2020 and alleged that the May 2020 public hearing approving the project was unlawful and inconsistent with restrictions placed during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Four years later, the lawsuit is now moving to the Court of Appeals of Virginia.
“I recommended to my clients, and they agreed, to drop the parts of the case that the judge had not dismissed, so that we could appeal to the court of appeals,” attorney Brian Buniva said. “And that's where we are now. So it's a pure issue of law.”
Richmond City Council could vote on City Center plan this fall
Reported by VPM News’ Keyris Manzanares
Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney told VPM News just last week that his No. 2 priority before leaving office was "delivering on the City Center project.”
Though announced in 2022, news about the “mixed-use, mixed-income urban innovation district destination” has been relatively quiet in recent months.
But this week, City Councilor Ellen Robertson said that the project’s committee has been making progress — and narrowed down to two possible developers.
“We are looking forward to hopefully being able to bring a development agreement to the City Council this fall,” Robertson told VPM News.
