University of Virginia unveils new policies on masking, free expression

One day before the fall 2024 semester began, the University of Virginia announced a new policy restricting the wearing of face masks. With some exceptions, anyone wearing a mask on UVA property may be asked to provide photo identification or a doctor’s note indicating that the mask is medically necessary.
Additionally, the university updated its policies on use of university property, tent use, amplified outdoor sound, and exterior posting and chalking.
UVA spokesperson Bethanie Glover told VPM News in an email the free expression and free inquiry changes “are an effort to make our policies clearer and easier to follow.”
Bon Secours Mercy Health partners with private equity-owned provider

Bon Secours Mercy Health is partnering with Compassus, a Tennessee-based health care provider, on a program aimed at expanding home health and hospice care in Virginia, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and South Carolina.
“We recognize the changing health care landscape and the desire of more patients to have flexible care options, including care in the home,” Bon Secours COO Don Kline said. “Bon Secours Mercy Health is proud to provide patients and families with comprehensive care for every stage of life.”
By 2030, nearly one-quarter of the commonwealth’s residents will be over the age of 60, according to the Virginia Department on Aging and Rehabilitative Services.
