Judge blocks injunction over Richmond land sale to Planned Parenthood
Reported by VPM News’ Keyris Manzanares
A Richmond circuit court judge denied a local psychiatrist's request for a temporary restraining order that would have paused the city’s pending sale of a parcel valued at $1.25 million to the Virginia League for Planned Parenthood for $10.
Judge Tracy W.J. Thorne-Begland ruled that Dr. Sheila Furey’s practice did not have standing to sue the city and Chief Administrative Officer Lincoln Saunders to block the sale, which was unanimously approved by City Council in July.
“If Dr. Furey's local medical practice doesn't have standing to challenge Richmond's unlawful sale of a $1.25 million property to Planned Parenthood for $10, then no one does,” wrote attorney Josh Hetzler, who represented Furey, in a statement Friday.
Meet the Richmond native who toured with Karol G this summer
Reported by VPM News’ Keyris Manzanares
When drummer T.K. Johnson was invited in May to audition for a spot backing up a touring musician, she didn’t know who the artist was — until it was finally time to sign the paperwork.
“They had me record three more songs, and that’s when I signed [and] saw who the artist was,” the 23-year-old Richmond native said. “It said it was Karol G. I’m like, ‘Oh, I’ve heard of her. That’s a big artist!’”
The former Richmond Public Schools student backed the Colombian pop star on the European leg of her “Mañana Será Bonito” tour, performing in 10 cities across nine countries over the summer — including four sold-out concerts at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
