How did a WWII-era gun spend decades in a Chesterfield evidence room?

The agendas for any local government’s summer meetings are usually filled with pro-forma requests, recognitions of school bus drivers and plaques for middle school teachers.
But this past summer, the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors considered a request that was anything but ordinary: a motion to allow the county’s police department to donate a World War II-era gun manufactured in Nazi Germany to the Virginia War Memorial.
Even more extraordinary is the path the MP40 machine pistol took on its way to the war memorial — from the home of a Chesterfield woman whose husband and brother-in-law fought in WWII to four decades in CCPD’s evidence unit.
Early voting period opens today in Virginia

The wait is finally over for Virginians who want to get a head start on casting their votes in this year’s election.
Early voting sites across the commonwealth will accept ballots for November’s general election from today, Sept. 20, through Nov. 2.
