Democrat Tim Kaine wins re-election to U.S. Senate

The Associated Press called the race at 11:22 p.m. Tuesday. Results are unofficial until certified by the state.
Virginians chose Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine for a third term, sending the avuncular Richmonder back to D.C.
Kaine beat out Republican Hung Cao, a Navy veteran whose campaign was punctuated by striking statements. Cao has not conceded as of publication time.
