Henrico County began the process of redistricting schools last night at a public information session designed to reassure parents and get them involved in the process.  Charles Fishburne reports.

Transcript:

Charles Fishburne:  Henrico’s population is changing.  And so are some of its school districts.

Andy Jenks:  We have Holiday Elementary School that will be doubling in size in about two years.

Jenks:  When Tucker High School and Highland Springs High Schools are rebuilt, they will include additional seats and so the redistricting process will account for that.  And then whenever possible, we will look to reduce concentrations of poverty, but still maintaining a community school concept to the greatest extend possible.

Fishburne:  The redistricting plan won’t be finalized until next May.  Last night’s meeting, and another tomorrow night at Glen Allen are designed to give parents and interested parties a chance to understand and participate.   Charles Fishburne, VPM News.
