Most Chesterfield Students Returning To All Virtual Lessons

After only a few months of attending in person classes, most students will now have to do a 180 and return to an all virtual setting starting Monday, November 30th. This is due to spiking numbers of coronavirus cases. (Photo: Ian Stewart/VPM News)

Last week, Superintendent Merv Daugherty sent a letter to families saying the district would return to virtual learning if new coronavirus cases hit a certain number based on a rolling weekly average.

That number was 25. Today, the Virginia Department of Health reported the county hit 26.5.

To put that in perspective, last month, that number was half.

Despite students being on Thanksgiving break, the district sent the notice out, stating the new metrics place schools in the highest risk category of coronavirus transmission.

However, some special education students will be continuing with in-person instruction.

The School Board will hold a special session on Monday at 3 p.m. to get the latest Covid-19 updates.
