For more than half a century — before it became the state's first museum devoted to science — the building at 2500 W. Broad St. in Richmond was a transportation hub.

After hearing from former and then-current employees of the Science Museum of Virginia about their experiences as people of color at the organization, Yasmine Jumaa began this special project to examine the museum’s public record on matters of race, equity and inclusion — and to question institutional leaders in and beyond SMV about what it takes to truly serve all Virginians, as their mission statements say they do.
