In 1996, Christina Skleros was called "The Yankees Good Luck Charm" after she sang the National Anthem at the game that won them the World Series. She was 8 years old at the time.
"My dad sent the Yankees a tape of me singing the National Anthem earlier that season, and I started singing at Yankees games," she recalls. "Every game I sang at, they won, and that's when FOX News started referring to me as 'The Yankees Good Luck Charm.'"
When the Yankees made it to the playoffs, manager George Steinbrenner insisted on having their lucky charm around.
"The day of the playoffs, he picked me up and said, 'Christina, you're going to be singing in front of millions of people. You're going to do great... but don't mess up!'" she remembers. "After the Yankees won, I was part of the ticker-tape parade and everything, and it was just so much fun!"
