The Jewel of Medina, a historical novel about Muhammad's wife, was set to be published Aug. 12. But in May, Random House halted publication, citing concerns that the racy book by author Sherry Jones would "be offensive to some in the Muslim community" and "could incite acts of violence by a small, radical segment."

Journalist Asra Nomani details the story in her Wall Street Journal op-ed, "You Still Can't Write About Muhammad."
