In a note to editorial staff, Sara Richards, Manager, Training Team made the following announcement:
Hi all,
The Training team is excited to announce that we've hired George Bodarky as our Reporting Trainer, a new role focused on helping staff sharpen key reporting skills, including interviewing, sourcing, writing, building a beat and voicing. George will spend much of his time coaching reporters and producers across NPR and will also help us build and scale a training program for Member station journalists, in partnership with the Collaborative Journalism Network.
George comes to us from WNYC, where he served as the Community Partnerships & Training Editor. There he built a comprehensive training program in the newsroom and coached scores of reporters, hosts, editors and producers. Before that, George spent over two decades overseeing and producing news and public affairs at WFUV, an NPR affiliate located on Fordham University's Rose Hill campus in the Bronx. While at WFUV, he developed and led a nationally recognized training program for aspiring multimedia journalists. Before WFUV, George worked as an anchor, reporter, and news manager in commercial radio and television.
George is an adjunct professor of journalism at Fordham University and the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. He's held leadership positions within public radio, including serving as president of Public Radio News Directors, Inc. (now PMJA), and the New York State Associated Press Association. George is a fitness enthusiast who loves everything from running marathons to bootcamps in the park. A self-proclaimed thrill-seeker, he's always up for an adventure and never turns down a chance to take to the stage for karaoke.
George's first day will be Monday, Jan. 6. He'll be based out of NYC and working at the NY Bureau but will visit NPR HQ frequently. We're excited for you to meet him.
