January 31, 2025; Washington D.C., — NPR President and CEO Katherine Maher has named Darryl Walston Senior Vice President of NPR's People Team, reporting into NPR's Chief Financial Officer Daphne Kwon.
"Darryl has been an invaluable partner to me from the moment I arrived at NPR. He rose to the challenge of leadership and responsibility when the organization needed him, filling the role of interim CPO for a full year. His strategic insights and unflappable approach to unforeseen challenges have earned the support of his colleagues and the respect and admiration of his peers on the executive team, and I'm thrilled to recognize and elevate his work," said Maher.
"NPR's mission to inform the American public would not be possible without our dedicated and talented staff. It is an honor to lead the dynamic and forward-thinking People Team and to continue to support my colleagues at NPR, ensuring they have the best possible environment to do their work well and grow in their careers," said Walston.
Walston brings over 15 years of multi-industry HR experience at both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Throughout his career, he has served as a trusted business partner and strategic advisor, leveraging proven best practices to align talent strategies with business priorities. Prior to joining NPR, Walston worked in HR roles at The Aspen Institute, Lockheed Martin, and Discovery Inc., where he led and supported large-scale organizational initiatives across talent management, organizational design, and workforce planning. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Bowie State University and holds a Strategic HR Business Partner (sHRBP) Certification through the Human Capital Institute.
