Two VPM PBS documentaries are set to premiere at the 32nd Annual Virginia Film Festival, taking place in Charlottesville on October 23-27. In addition to the films, VPM PBS will offer a family-friendly experience featuring one of the most beloved characters from the colorful world of “Sesame Street.”
In partnership with the University of Virginia Center for Politics, VPM PBS will present the premiere screening of “Dismantling Democracy,” a timely documentary depicting the gradual deterioration of the effectiveness of government for, of, and by the people. Following the premiere, Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia Center for Politics will moderate a discussion with Ann Dowd, star of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
VPM PBS will also debut a documentary exploring the world of Chef Patrick O’Connell and his Michelin-starred restaurant, The Inn at Little Washington. Considered one of the greatest dining experiences in America, the documentary follows this “chef’s chef” through the Inn’s 40th anniversary while chasing the ultimate accolade... a third Michelin star. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Chef Patrick O’Connell and producer/director Mira Chang, moderated by Roben Farzad, host of Full Disclosure on NPR One and PBS NewsHour special correspondent.
In addition to the documentaries, VPM PBS KIDS will also present a special screening of “Sesame Street”
at the Virginia Film Festival Family Day. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the iconic, award-winning children’s series, the screening will include a live performance by the Charlottesville Symphony at the University of Virginia and a special photo opportunity with Walkaround Elmo.
