Truly there is much to be thankful for in our corner of the world – especially RVA’s arts and culture community. Through thick and thin over the past eighteen months of pandemic, they have found creative ways to keep us connected, entertained, and challenged by art, music, stories, and dance. This week is no exception. For November, let’s remember the amazing work they do – and go out and live into all RVA has to offer!

1. FIRST FRIDAYS EXHIBIT AT THE RICHMOND PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Richmond Public Library’s Main Branch offers four new exhibits for First Fridays RVA: Ellis Island Immigrants: Faces of America by Sandra Nardone featuring 24 portraits in oils from black-and-white photos taken on Ellis Island from the late 1800s to 1925; City Street Life: Seen by Three by Steve Ferretti, Lisa Lezell Levine, and Ed Tepper, featuring six street experiences, presented through the personal expression, artistic style and preferred medium of the artists; Friends in the Streets: An Artist's View on Homelessness by Connie de Bordenave presenting her four-year project that the dignity, diversity and worth of each of the people she met on the streets; and Full Circle by Gina Catlin featuring collages ranging from natural sciences, the nocturnal sky, and surreal scenarios on printed photography taken from parks and places in Richmond, Virginia, and Chicago, Illinois. 2. CRAFTING HISTORY

The season of hearth and harvest comes alive for kids with Agecroft Hall’s Crafting History Boxes that bring the museum home to you! Open the box and be carried away through eight (8) crafts celebrating fall and history. Access to their online forum with additional instructions and assistance from their Education Department is included with each box. The online forum that accompanies each fun-filled box will be available for two weeks following Election Day to fit with all attention spans and schedules. These projects and adventures will take kids from the kitchen to the back yard and to the art easel for a fun day bringing the museum to your doorstep! Recommended for kids ages 5-11. Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize classic takes center stage in the center of the universe, Ashland. Presented by Whistle Stop Theatre Company. Guests are required to present proof of vaccination at the door and remain masked unless consuming concessions. Since following her passion into comedy, she has experienced a whirlwind of success on both stage and television. Lynne is a featured comedian in Jenny McCarthy’s Epix comedy special Dirty, Sexy, Funny, and her 2016 Netflix special Hormonal Beast is getting rave reviews! She is one of the most respected comedians in New York, and has recently opened for both Chris Rock and Louie CK. Presented by the Perkinson Center for the Arts and Education. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ latest exhibit, Man Ray: The Paris Years, focuses on the innovative portrait photographs that the American artist Man Ray made in the French capital between 1921 and 1940. Shortly after his arrival in July 1921, Man Ray embarked on a sustained campaign to document the international avant-garde in Paris between the two world wars in a series of remarkable portraits that established his reputation as one of the leading photographers of his era.
