VPM News selected as a ‘Report for America’ host newsroom
VPM is excited to announce that, in partnership with WMRA in Harrisonburg, VPM News has been selected as a Report for America host newsroom beginning in 2023. Through this partnership, VPM News and WMRA will expand their coverage of rural healthcare in the Shenandoah Valley and areas around Charlottesville.
Report for America is a national service program that places journalists in local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities. It is an initiative of The GroundTruth Project, an award-winning nonprofit media organization, and is structured to harness the skills and idealism of an emerging group of journalists plus the creative spirit of local news organizations—like VPM.
“VPM News is honored to be selected as a Report for America newsroom amongst such a strong group of applicants nationwide," said VPM News Director Elliott Robinson." This opportunity will allow us and partner station WMRA to shed light on underserved areas and the efforts to fill gaps in healthcare.”
Report for America is a two-year program (with an option for three) that delivers a wide range of benefits to its corps members. Beyond paying up to half of the journalists’ salaries, it provides ongoing training and mentorship by leading journalists, peer networking and memberships to select professional organizations. VPM News and WMRA will join a growing network of some 220 Report for America newsrooms.
Journalists interested in this position should apply by Jan. 30, 2023.
