Newly-Conservative Supreme Court to Tackle Abortion Restrictions

The United States Supreme Court is set to take on a Louisiana abortion law that puts one of the nation’s most divisive issues in the spotlight as the 2020 presidential election approaches.

And as Charles Fishburne reports, abortion rights activists fear it could lead to an incremental increase in state restrictions.

Transcript:

Charles Fishburne:  Last week, a federal judge upheld Virginia’s law requiring women to have an ultrasound at least 24 hours before obtaining an abortion and another measure requiring physicians to perform the procedure. Carl Tobias, Law Professor at the University of Richmond says it is the kind of case a newly-conservative Supreme Court might either decline to hear or refuse to overturn

Carl Tobias:  Even if the court does not overrule Roe versus Wade, the feeling is the strategy may be on the part of opponents to just completely undermine it.

Fishburne:  Even so, abortion rights activists who challenged the Virginia law say they may appeal.  Charles Fishburne, VPM News.
