As the weather begins the slow process of cooling down, VPM is kicking of a busy fall season! This month, VPM was back in the community hosting and attending events, as well as adding some more hardware to its trophy case at 23 Sesame St!

Events
Nearly 150 community members packed The Sipe Center in Bridgewater on Sept. 18 for an event to celebrate the launch of season three of VPM and Deep Structure’s Life in the Heart Land (LITHL) series! Attendees participated in a cutting board-making activity, caught a premiere screening of LITHL’s third season before listening to panel discussions with rural neighbors featured in the series. There was also a local musical performance, and the producers from Deep Structure shared insights from their experiences working on the series. On Sept. 27, VPM joined more than 30 community partners for the 2025 Healthy Birth Healthy Baby Expo in Charlottesville. The annual free event is a celebration of community, pregnancy, birth and babies. During the Expo, the VPM team shared information and fun resources in support of our two main Early Childhood Care and Education initiatives — The Basics and the When, Then-90by5 awareness campaign.
VPM News
This month, the VPM News team continued its new web series called Finding Joy that explores the people, places and activities that bring joy to people in RVA. Some of the topics explored in September include GWAR, weddings, weightlifting, building community through dance and more.
Awards
VPM closed out the 2025 award season with another handful of honors! On Sept. 15, the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) announced the winners of the 57th Public Media Awards where VPM added four awards to its total this year.
