The holidays have arrived, and VPM is celebrating by doing what it does best: serving our local communities! This November, VPM was out at events, emceeing concerts, joining podcasts and even visiting local schools for ‘Career Day’!

Events
The Virginia Commission on Civic Education hosted the 2025 Teacher Summit on Civic Education on Nov. 18 at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. During the summit, VPM President & CEO Jayme Swain spoke during a session titled “How to be a Savvy News Consumer” where she explained why it’s important to be mindful of where audiences get their news and how VPM serves its communities by covering local news.
On Veterans Day, VPM music host John Porter served as the emcee at the annual Veterans Day concert by the Richmond Pops Orchestra. The sold-out event was held at The Altria Theater where the band was joined by several local musicians. VPM music host Mike Goldberg previewed this year’s Veterans Day performance in this article.
Speaking Engagements
Earlier this year, Jayme joined Yvonne Mastromano of the Virginia Voice podcast to discuss VPM’s support of Virginia Voice, accessibility to news in our communities, cuts to federal funding and how VPM and other public media stations are moving forward despite challenges. On Nov. 21, VPM production manager Matthew Wood attended ‘Career Day’ at Robious Middle School where he talked with students about what it’s like to work at VPM!
