Ivy Buck is the newest Petra Mayer Memorial Fellow. She works in the Arts and Culture Hub with the NPR Books team, helping to produce the Book of the Day podcast and Books We Love, two projects founded by Mayer during her remarkable two-decade career at NPR.
Buck has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wellesley College, where she graduated summa cum laude with honors in May 2025. During her time at Wellesley, she kept busy with various student organizations including The Wellesley News, Wellesley's Political Engagement Committee, and her beloved fiber arts group, the Wellesley College Knitty Committee.
She is a lifelong Vermonter, having grown up "just outside of Burlington," as many rural Vermont residents often say. A former competitive gymnast, Buck splits her time between Vermont, Washington D.C. and—when she can manage it—London, England.
Prior to NPR, she interned at Slate Magazine in the News and Politics Department, co-managed the Arts and Culture section of The Wellesley News and performed editorial and translation work for The Journal of Italian Cinema and Media Studies. She is also a current freelance writer for LitCharts, where she constructs literature study guides for readers of all ages.
Buck's favorite writer is Dorothy Parker. Her favorite reader is NPR's own Terry Gross. [Copyright 2025 NPR]
