Henrico County files plans to demolish Best Products building

Although permanent plans aren’t in place for Henrico County’s desired arena-anchored district, officials are preparing for its future development starting with the demolition of the old Best Products headquarters.
The 93-acre site near Parham Road and Interstate was once considered a part of the well-known GreenCity development, a billion-dollar deal that was slated to bring a mix of commercial, residential spaces and an indoor arena to the county.
However, the GreenCity development agreement collapsed last year, as the county’s then-partners failed to make payments on the Best Products property and a legal dispute between the county, the developers and its arena operators caused multiple delays.
The county has since reclaimed the property and has solicited new partners to help reignite the development’s progress. The Henrico Economic Development Authority, which owns the site, wants to demolish the 1980s-era Best Products building and surrounding improvements on the property.
The building’s removal would make way for the commercial portion of the larger, 200-acre mixed-use development, which Henrico has been planning since it announced GreenCity in 2020.
The demolition would not involve the two large eagle statues that stand outside the building’s main entrance and there’s no current timetable for the razing of the property.
Richmond area welcomes a full-plate of new restaurants

A slew of new eateries are coming to the Richmond-region starting with the expansion of Benny’s, a familiar pizza place founded in Blacksburg. The Fan District pizzeria signed on to open a second area location in Richmond, this time in Scott’s Addition at 2943 W. Marshall St.
Longtime Hampton Roads sandwich shop Gourmet Gang i is planning to open its first spot in Richmond. The deli plans to open in the James Center.
Gourmet Gang was recently acquired by Richmond-based Trolley Hospitality Companies, which operates several food and drink brands. The company hopes to expand its presence in Central Virginia.
The Bon Air area is set to welcome a new brunch-chain called Vicious Biscuit. The company will take over the former Southbound restaurant space at the Stony Point Village Shopping Center, who operated the space for around a decade.
Hopewell welcomed its first brewery in the Good Ship Brewing Co. Owner Donnie Barber originally announced the project in 2019, but experienced multiple delays during the onset of the pandemic. The brewpub eater located on East Cawson Street, is set to have its official ribbon cutting on Feb. 5
