Australian guitarist Andrew Blanch and Argentinian mezzo-soprano María Eugenia Nieva are musical and life partners. The classical duo bring their “Spanish Romance” program to Richmond Wednesday evening, July 29th (tonight) as part of a massive 58-city tour.

Andrew is one of the most celebrated young classical guitarists worldwide, with three studio albums released yielding over a million streams, prizes won in ten international guitar competitions, and recognition as a finalist in the 2022 Australian Art Music Awards. His fourth album, Tierra, has just been released and features music from the Italian Baroque to Romantic-era Spain, 20th-century Latin America and the present day.

María Eugenia Nieva is an Argentinian mezzo-soprano praised for her “Latin sensuality” and “strong, dark-chocolate mezzo voice” (The Age), known for bringing “genuine Argentine flair” to her performances (Limelight Magazine). She has appeared as a soloist with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and performed for leading festivals and presenters across Australia and internationally.

I had the pleasure of welcoming the duo into our brand new VPM Music studio for a chat about the current tour and their first visit to Richmond. The concert is Wednesday evening, July 29th at 7pm in the First Presbyterian Church on Cary Street Road. I hope you enjoy our chat and have a chance to hear these wonderful musicians live in concert.

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg
