To encourage people to stay “six feet apart” to prevent the spread of COVID-19, several Chesterfield County groups started a fundraising campaign to create a T-shirt — that both highlights that message and raises money for the local food bank.
In bold white letters are the words “Standing Together/Six Feet Apart.” On the back of the shirt is the hashtag “Chesterfield Strong.”
The Executive Director of the Chesterfield Education Foundation Tyron Frazier says they created the shirt as a way to quickly support the food bank.
“We want them to be as nimble and flexible as possible so they can use their purchasing power to make sure they have the food, the supplies they need and the food base to help during this time of need,” said Frazier.
The non-profit usually funds teacher projects. But when schools closed and parents started losing jobs, Frazier says the foundation created an emergency response fund, followed by the t-shirt.
As of Sunday, more than a thousand shirts have been sold, with almost $13,000 raised. Each shirt costs about $22.
