Fencing around former site of Richmond’s Robert E. Lee monument remains one year after statue removal

While the fencing could come down soon, a new proposal could prevent it from being a major gathering spot. Later today, Richmond’s Urban Design Committee will evaluate a plan to fill the space with plants and mulch pathways. The landscaping is meant to be a temporary measure until the city decides on a more permanent design. City council will have the final say on the plan.
Protesters rally against changes to abortion laws at Virginia capitol

Pro-abortion rights advocates gathered at the Virginia Capitol yesterday to rally against any changes to the commonwealth’s abortion laws. Gov. Glenn Youngkin has proposed banning abortions past 15 weeks, with exceptions for rape, incest, or when a woman’s life is in danger. The General Assembly didn’t take up abortion during a brief session yesterday, but Republican Del. Emily Brewer said in a speech that Democrats were trying to avoid taking a clear stand on when they believe life begins. Lawmakers are expected to take up the issue in January.
Youngkin campaigns for Maine Republican LePage, who has history of making racist comments

Gov. Glenn Youngkin traveled to Maine to campaign for Maine gubernatorial candidate Paul Lepage. The trip came under fire from Virginia Democrats, who said LePage’s previous racist comments made him a “dangerous politician.”
