Southside Speedway to bring racing back to Chesterfield County

Two-year-old Christian Southworth was excited to inspect the racecars Tuesday, as Chesterfield County officials and Competitive Racing Investments announced a deal to renovate and reopen Southside Speedway. The track closed in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
He wasn’t the only person excited to attend the announcement. Several hundred people came out — including some who said they’d watched Friday night races at the track since it first opened in 1959.
“They got a lot of support from the citizens of Chesterfield, and we’re getting ready to run races again,” said Jack Borinski, a fan who said he’d watched races at the track over the course of several decades.
