The judges for this year’s Tiny Desk contest had a pretty tough job. They had to pick just five finalists out of thousands and thousands of entries. All this week, we’ve been meeting those five finalists, and today’s introduction comes courtesy of Anamaria Sayre, the host of NPR’s Alt. Latino podcast.
ANAMARIA SAYRE, BYLINE: Noa Bar, an artist from Los Angeles, really blew me away with her entry, “Diagnosis.”
(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, “DIAGNOSIS”)
BAR: (Singing) Baby, my doctor diagnosed me with a fear of commitment. Baby, my baggage is too heavy for your heart. Baby, my doctor diagnosed me, and I don’t have a treatment. You shouldn’t date me ’cause you won’t get very far.
SAYRE: In the video, you can see her doing this incredible live looping. She has this beautiful vocal tone that complements perfectly the distinct looping and subtle percussion that she does.

BAR: (Singing) All my blood tests came out fine. He told me don′t worry your sweet mind. There’s just one small vital sign. Baby, my doctor diagnosed me with a fear of commitment. Maybe my baggage is too heavy for your heart. Baby, my doctor diagnosed me, and I don′t have a treatment.
SAYRE: It just all fits together like perfect puzzle pieces.

BAR: (Singing) I don’t know what′s wrong inside my head. Got this dizzy-like sensation, and you started catching feelings, I could tell. All my blood tests came out fine. He told me, don′t worry your sweet mind. There’s just one small vital sign.
