Anna Yukhananov joins NPR as Deputy Washington Editor

In a note to newsroom staff, Krishnadev Calamur, Chief Washington Editor, Dana Farrington, Deputy Editor, Muthoni Muturi, Supervising Senior Editor, and Andrew Sussman, Supervising Editor, made the following announcement:

Please welcome Anna Yukhananov who is joining our desk as deputy Washington editor.

Anna will oversee daily news coverage, working alongside Dana Farrington, the deputy Washington editor for planning.

In addition, she will be the main editor of our Justice team, overseeing Carrie Johnson and Ryan Lucas. Additionally, she will be the primary editor for Ximena Bustillo, our general assignment reporter. She will also be backup editor on the Supreme Court and Nina Totenberg’s work.

Anna comes to NPR from Bloomberg Law, where she most recently oversaw coverage of corporate legal issues including antitrust and helped her team break news on a Texas bankruptcy judge embroiled in a secret romance. She previously led news reporting teams focused on Congress, policy and environmental law at Bloomberg Government, Bloomberg Environment, and Morning Consult.

Anna also worked as a reporter at Reuters in London, Washington, and Mexico City. She got her start in journalism writing about the Cake Boss, Snooki, and other local institutions for The Jersey Journal in northern New Jersey.

She loves traveling and nerding out about languages, and will happily discuss Turkish verbs and Russian genders with anyone who will listen.

Krishnadev Calamur

Krishnadev Calamur is NPR's Chief Washington Editor, a role in which he oversees all aspects of the Washington Desk. The desk's correspondents, editors and producers cover the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, the Justice Department, presidential campaigns and other electoral politics, and tell stories across all of NPR's broadcast and digital platforms. The desk also is home to the NPR Politics Podcast. Previously, as a deputy Washington editor, he helped oversee planning of the Washington desk's news coverage and edited NPR's Supreme Court and congressional coverage. Prior to that, Calamur was an editor and staff writer at The Atlantic. This is his second stint at NPR, having previously worked on NPR's website from 2008-15. Calamur received an M.A. in journalism from the University of Missouri.
