Four young lions roaming the fertile field of jazz in Richmond, Virginia, well infected and fueled by Doug Richards’ storied Jazz Studies program at VCU, came together through legendary bands like Devil’s Workshop and Modern Groove Syndicate to form a foursome playfully dubbed Neighborliness.
John Winn, Daniel Clarke, Curtis Fye and Robby Sinclair became fixtures on a thriving club scene, made their mark, and in 2004 were selected to take part in the Jazz Ambassadors Program of the U.S. State Department and the Kennedy Center. It would be a five-week tour that sent groups all over the world to entertain and educate local populations about America’s great musical treasure, jazz. They played concert halls, universities, libraries, museums and clubs in South Korea, Russia, Cambodia, and Mexico.
They would then explore their own individual career potentials, leading to collaborations and world touring with national artists with household names, and important roles as educators, lighting the fire for countless young musicians. They got Robby Sinclair back from Paris and gathered the night before this Révéler reunion to take a fresh new look at these old arrangements, and joyfully relive some good times.
