A bittersweet tribute to start a new year of Time For The Blues

albums featuring Christine McVie

Henry Cook and I hope you will join us this Saturday night, January 7th, at 9:00 p.m. as we drop our first show of 2023. It’s a bittersweet event as we pay tribute to the recently passed Christine McVie among other great music.

Both Henry and I are big fans of Christine McVie, both of her vocal talents and her keyboard skills. She was underrated during her time with Fleetwood Mac, and like them, started off her career playing and singing the blues.

Henry, who has a great library of classic rock and blues, has reached deep into the vaults to pull out his copy of Chicken Shack: The Complete Blue Horizon Sessions to get some of McVie’s early early work. Let me tell you, this lady could rock! If you aren’t familiar with Chicken Shack, you are in for a real treat. Henry’s even found a selection that she did on her own under her maiden name.

We’ve also got a set featuring The Bluesbreakers and we’ll show you how the two are connected to each other. The Bluesbreakers has long been one of those groups that grooms future stars to go out on their own and many of the players in the Bluesbreakers have gone on to amazing successes outside of the group.

But all this would be incomplete if we didn’t have a few tracks from Fleetwood Mac. So, we’ve got a one from the early days and one of McVie’s from a little later – Mystery To Me.

Plus we’ve got music from the Tedeschi Trucks Band and JJ Grey & Mofro.

All in all, it’s a great show and we would love to have you join us for the fun if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s January 7th, and you can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Heathsville; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and online at VPM.org where it’s always Time For The Blues!
