COVID Cancellation Doesn’t Stop Celebration for Henrico’s Teacher of the Year

Because of the pandemic, the usual ceremony Henrico County holds for its "teacher of the year" was cancelled. But Glen Allen High School English teacher Lindsey Pantele says she was surprised and emotional when family and friends drove up to her house to celebrate her from a safe distance.

"I just immediately started crying," Pantale said.

Pantele grew up in Henrico, and said she was grateful to be named teacher of the year among the 4,000 educators in the county.  She had a message for her students. "I wish that we had all known that that was going to be the last time we were going to see each other in person in room 410," Pantale said.  "And I miss all of you dearly."

She said she hopes her students reach out to their teachers to let them know if there was anything they could do to help make the next couple of months as special as they can be, even as schools continue to remain closed.
