Chesterfield's 2020 Budget Includes A Merit Increase For Staff

This coming year eligible employees those who meet expectations laid out in annual performance reviews can expect a 3 percent merit increase. That means someone making $30,000 a year could take home an extra $900.

But Chesterfield staff will also see more taken out of their paychecks to pay for rising healthcare costs. Director of Human Resources Mary Martin Selby says they shouldn’t worry. “Your merit increase should not be totally consumed by your healthcare increase,” says Selby.

She added Chesterfield pays for two-thirds of healthcare costs and isn’t the only county in Virginia seeing a hike in these expenses. Henrico, Hanover and Richmond are also proposing 3 percnet merit increases for their employees.
