No Clear Advantage In City Council Race

Candidates running for Richmond’s 5th district City Council seat raised more than eighty thousand dollars ahead of next week’s election. No single candidate has outpaced the others in campaign donations.

The final campaign finance reports ahead of November 5th show Thad Williamson and Stephanie Lynch with the highest fundraising totals. Both have raised around 22 thousand dollars throughout their campaigns.

They’re followed closely by Jer’Mykeal McCoy who’s raised around 18 thousand dollars. Self-declared socialist Nicholas Da’Silva raised about half that. Mamie Taylor, Robin Mines and the self-funded Chuck Richardson are also in the crowded 5th district race, but raised less than $3,000.

The winner of the special election will replace Councilman Parker Agelasto, who is being forced out after moving outside of his district last year.
