During the coronavirus outbreak, VPM is running a daily newscast of our reporting, hosted by Benjamin Dolle. Episodes are recorded at 6 p.m. and released for 7 a.m. the next day, Tuesday through Friday.
In today's newscast:
- Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney requests a reopening day delay - and Gov. Ralph Northam grants it.
- Hair salons in the capital city are divided - some want to reopen while others say it's too dangerous for their customers, citing disproportionate health outcomes for people of color.
- Unemployment claims continue to decline, although they're still higher than before the pandemic.
- After criticism from local and national outlets, Virginia is changing its testing numbers to better depict antibody vs swab tests.
- A lawsuit by the Hanover NAACP alleging that schools named after Confederate generals is discriminatory has been thrown out by a federal judge.
- Virginia Commonwealth University is starting clinical trials on a drug to control severe immune overreaction resulting from complications of COVID 19
Although libraries are closed to foot traffic, librarians are still serving the public - through digital tools, telephone help, and even curbside pickup.
