Henrico County Public Schools approved a budget for the upcoming fiscal year on Thursday. The proposed budget is $665.2 million - which is about $23 million more than the current operating budget.

Accounting for last year’s budget reductions due to COVID-19, the plan would restore money to areas like professional education services, infrastructure, and instructional supplies.

The budget also includes increases in employee health care benefits and adds positions for 10 school counselors, who are currently being paid for by federal CARES Act money.

The spending plan doesn’t account for employee pay raises, which will be considered later in the budget process.

After the county Board of Supervisors reviews the proposal, the school board is expected to hold a final vote in May and the approved budget will go into effect July 1.
