Richmond, Va. - Eight years ago, the British period drama “Downton Abbey” quietly premiered on American PBS stations. What followed was an international sensation. Fans of the beloved PBS Masterpiece series will be able to return to Highclere Castle once again as “Downton Abbey” the movie hits theatres nationwide in September. To celebrate, VPM, the new name of the Community Idea Stations, is hosting an advanced screening and watch party of the much-awaited film at Richmond’s Regal Cinemas, Short Pump on Sept. 18, 2019 at 7:30 p.m.
This advanced screening — two days before the national release — will offer area viewers the chance to dress up and celebrate the return of their beloved Crawley family. Attendees will get to walk the red carpet and have their pictures taken in front of a green screen of Highclere Castle, the Crawley family estate.
“As much as we enjoyed watching six seasons of ‘Downton Abbey’ at home, every year, we all looked forward to seeing the season premieres together at annual preview screenings made possible by your local PBS station, now VPM,” said Katherine Mitchell, Vice President for Community Engagement at VPM. “Come join us again for what we anticipate will be the biggest ‘Downton Abbey’ movie watch party in the state of Virginia.”
An $18 donation covers general admission to the advanced screening and a special souvenir photo in front of Highclere Castle. All proceeds benefit VPM. Register for the event at vpm.org/downton.
