Richmond, Va. - For over thirty years, sweater-sporting Fred Rogers used the medium of public television to talk to America’s children. He let them know that they mattered, that they were loved. This September, VPM is holding a "Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood" Sweater Drive. Collected items will be given to the Peter Paul Development Center, which serves families in Richmond’s East End, and to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Richmond which supports refugees resettling in our community.

“Every day, VPM PBS embodies the spirit of inclusiveness and kindness to our neighbors that Mister Rogers began more than 50 years ago,” said Katherine Mitchell, VPM’s Vice President for Community Engagement. “You can be a part of this legacy by participating in our sweater drive as the weather cools throughout the month of September.”

Collection boxes will be available Sept. 1-30 at VPM’s Richmond studios, all area locations of Virginia Family Dentistry, Crossroads Art Center, and World of Mirth in Carytown. Donations of new sweaters and other new winter clothing for both children and adults are welcome.

VPM’s "Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood" Sweater Drive is sponsored by Virginia Family Dentistry and Crossroads Art Center.

Watch encore presentations of “Mister Rogers' Neighborhood” Saturday and Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. on VPM Plus.

Catch new and repeat episodes of the Mister Rogers’ legacy series “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” weekdays at 9:30 a.m. on VPM PBS, at 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on VPM Plus, and at various times on the 24/7 VPM PBS KIDS channel.
