Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Sweater Drive

Mr Rogers Sweater Drive

Mister Rogers’ caring and trusting ways created a calm, safe place to learn about ourselves, others, and the world around us. His words and actions are just a few of the reasons that VPM, among many other PBS affiliates, still airs Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood for families in our community.

Our viewers continue to be inspired by Mister Rogers and the world he created. Influenced by the song, It’s You I Like, local artist, Forrest Young, drew a lyrical portrait of Fred with his special guest, Jeff Erlanger, using only the words.

Now it’s your turn. Won’t you help your neighbors?

As we celebrate more than 50 years of Mister Rogers programming and anticipate the upcoming movie with Tom Hanks premiering November, we hope you will join us in honoring Mister Rogers’ legacy by giving a sweater to those in need. As the weather cools throughout September, donate new sweaters, jackets, or other winter clothing in specially-marked boxes located at VPM Studios and at our sponsors, Virginia Family Dentistry and Crossroads Art Center.

As a special incentive, Crossroads Art Center will give a free print of Forrest Young’s “Mister Rogers & Jeff Erlanger” lyrical portrait to the first twenty people to donate at Crossroads Art.

All new clothing will be donated to Peter Paul Development Center and The International Rescue Committee. Your donation will provide warmth for a needy family this winter, and continue Mister Rogers’ generous spirit. Thank you!
