Harrisonburg, Va. - International flavors and flair will be on full display at the Harrisonburg International Festival on Sat., Sept. 28 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Harrisonburg. For the first time, VPM PBS, formerly known in the region as WVPT, will be in attendance.

As sponsor of the VPM Stage at Asbury United Methodist Church, VPM will introduce performers representing cultural traditions from around the world.

The station will also host a PBS KIDS booth at the Worlds of Play children’s area where youngsters can participate in family-friendly activities, celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of “Sesame Street” and meet PBS KIDS character Luna, star of “Let’s Go Luna!," a new animated series that explores diverse cultures through the whimsical adventures of Luna the moon and her animal friends.

In addition, producers from VPM will be near the VPM Stage collecting interviews for possible inclusion in VPM’s upcoming podcast series “Resettled” about the refugee resettlement process.

"As part of the podcast, we are recording local stories about movement and change,” said “Resettled” producer Angela Massino. “How do new community members adjust to a new culture? How do you preserve your cultural traditions? In what ways do you share those traditions with others? These stories, which make up the fabric of our community, especially in such a diverse city as Harrisonburg, are central to the theme of ‘Resettled.’ We hope friends will stop by during the festival to share their stories.”
