Catherine Komp, Senior Features Editor and Producer at VPM News, has been awarded a 2020 Leadership and Innovation Award by the Virginia Press Foundation.

Cited in the nomination, which came from her colleagues at VPM, were Catherine’s efforts in expanding the VPM newsroom, her mentorship work, her assistance with the company’s transition to a new website, her role as a Senior Editor for the forthcoming VPM podcast “Resettled,” and her day-to-day responsibilities as an editor for the VPM News team.

"Catherine has built our editorial infrastructure for feature storytelling from the ground up,” said Craig Carper, News Director at VPM News. “She’s played a critical role in growing our internship program and training the next generation of journalists. On a daily basis, she plays an instrumental role in crafting content and guiding our reporters behind the scenes as they produce award-winning journalism.”

A reception honoring the winners is planned for June 2020 in Richmond, Va.
