From Our Home to Your Home

Family of four together on the couch

As many of us work from our homes and adapt to major changes in our lives, VPM is finding new and creative ways to keep us all connected to each other and what matters. As always, we are dedicated to our mission to educate, entertain and inspire—even if that means we have to do it from our homes.

Making Changes and Adapting
Adjusting Our Live Format for Virginia Home Grown
Since the show can't be live in the studio right now, segments are pre-recorded—which means hosts and guests can chat with viewers on Facebook during the show for the first time ever. They even answer questions and provide links to solutions instantly!

Regular COVID-19 Updates from Governor Northam
Watch the latest updates on the coronavirus pandemic from Gov. Ralph Northam. Updates are available via streaming Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. and on VPM PBS Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

VPM Learning Plus and VA TV Classroom
Learning Plus is a schedule of curated educational programs on the VPM Plus channel every school day from 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. to support home learning for children of all ages. This block of programs was developed by Virginia's public media stations and the Virginia Department of Education, based on educational priority areas for the State and content that is available for broadcast.

Virtual Events
“Asian Americans” Virtual Screening
VPM hosted a free virtual screening of “Asian Americans,” featuring highlights from key stories throughout the series. After the screening, Laura Pho led a Zoom panel discussion with Ting-Yi Oei, writer and Education Director with the 1882 Foundation, and John Yang, President and Executive Director of the Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC. Missed the event? Watch a recording of the panel discussion here.

Dinner & A Show with Terri
Charlottesville Inside Out host Terri Allard and former guests performed and shared messages from their homes. Enjoy music, dance, poetry, juggling and more!

Virginia Graduates Together
Virginia Graduates Together is a statewide celebration of the Commonwealth’s graduating class of 2020. We saluted this year’s grads from home with a special broadcast and streaming event featuring an address from Governor Ralph Northam and First Lady Pamela Northam, plus musical performances, a keynote speaker and well-wishes for the graduates from notable Virginians.

COMING SOON: Science Pub RVA: Trust
Join other curious minds on Zoom for the next Science Pub RVA. Learn about trust, both on personal and societal levels from a Randolph-Macon College clinical psychologist and discuss the timely topic of trust in science with a nationally-known PEW researcher.

COMING SOON: "A Public Calamity" Panel Discussion with Ed Ayers
"The Future of America’s Past" looks for lessons from history with their new short “A Public Calamity,”  examining Richmond’s response to the 1918 flu pandemic. Join us for a Facebook Live discussion with Ed Ayers, host of "Future of America's Past," and local experts about the parallels between 1918 and today.
