June 20 is World Refugee Day, dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees around the globe and commemorating the resilience and strength shown by refugees as they seek asylum and resettle in new homes. In honor of World Refugee Day, VPM is releasing a sneak preview of its upcoming podcast,  Resettled, which explores the process of refugee resettlement in Virginia through the voices of those directly experiencing it.

The season will consist of six thematic episodes, each of which aims to bring the listener into the daily lives of refugees through field interviews (at home, work and school), personally-recorded audio diaries and reflective studio interviews. This preview includes an excerpt from the episode on education, and focuses on the measures that schools like Harrisonburg High School have taken to ensure success for its resettled students.

Resettled launches with its first three episodes (including the full Education episode) on Friday, July 3, with the remaining episodes set to be released throughout July. Be sure to subscribe in your podcast player of choice, and visit vpm.org/resettled for additional information about the series and additional content from our community.
