Freitas (R) is the challenger for the 7th District seat currently held by Abigail Spanberger (D), who is seeking a second term. In 2018, Spanberger won the 7th District Congressional seat, making her the first Democratic representative of the district since 1971.

The 7th district is rooted in the Richmond suburbs of Henrico and Chesterfield counties. The district spans across Central Virginia including Orange, Culpeper, Goochland, Louisa and many other counties.

This live political discussion is brought to you in partnership by ChamberRVA and VPM News.

Citizen’s Agenda

The forum will include questions from the Citizens Agenda, an initiative by VPM News to collect responses from the community answering the question: What do you want the candidates to talk about as they compete for votes?

Over the course of four weeks, VPM collected nearly 350 submissions across Virginia. Responses included topics about:

  • Compromise, Values and Working Together
  • Rebuilding / Recovery from the COVID-19 Pandemic (healthcare, economy, education)
  • Equity and Economy
  • Criminal Justice and Police Reform
  • Voter Protections and Government Reforms
  • The topics from the survey will be used in ongoing election coverage.

Survey respondents also included concerns about misinformation and keeping media outlets focused on the facts. With this in mind, VPM is developing media literacy guides for listeners to learn how to fact check and detect misinformation leading up to the election.
