This week, RVA brings stories – true stories and fictions - created in imagery and in verse, in word and in music, to give our community a fuller experience of the significant cultural voices that weave throughout our region. The 4th Annual Twisted Culture Arts Festival is back for the fall, featuring music, poetry, dance, visual art and more. It offers two stages for performances, plus vendors. Admission is free, no registration required.

3. ROSETTE - SO HOT RIGHT NOW

So Hot Right Now is an innovative concert series created by Rosette, a Richmond-based string quartet comprised of four women who love to make meaningful connections through music. Their signature performance style features an informal approach to heartfelt music-making. During their concerts, each member of the quartet speaks about the music, offering a glimpse of their own unique personality, thought process, and experience within the group. Rosette is Ellen Cockerham Riccio (violin), Treesa Gold (violin), Kimberly Ryan (viola), and Steph Barrett (cello). All four members are professional musicians, balancing various ratios of teaching to performing with the Richmond Symphony and other ensembles. Purchase tickets online.
4. LIBRARY OF VIRGINIA LITERARY AWARDS

VMFA Reception: $8
The Library of Virginia Literary Awards will be held virtually again this year with a week of author conversations and special events, most free, beginning. Those winning the People’s Choice Awards for nonfiction, fiction, and poetry will be featured in panel discussions online. The Art in Literature: The Mary Lynn Kotz Award will be presented at the VMFA with an in-person reception and book signing and you must purchase tickets to attend. All online events are free and may be viewed at the Library’s Facebook or YouTube pages.
5. ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: MAUREEN STEWART

Maureen Stewart is an artist, designer and Air Force veteran who uses her work to foster collective compassion, solidarity and hope. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stewart collaborated with community members who sent her stories and images representing their experiences of isolation. In this conversation with Virginia War Memorial Director Dr. Clay Mountcastle, Stewart will share how she uses her skills as a designer and creator to render vibrant illustrations of these intimate moments. John Smith's map of Virginia was one of history's most influential maps, because of the importance of the Virginia settlement and the accuracy with which Smith conducted his work. Join Chesterfield County Library in a discussion of Elizabeth Rush’s Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore, exploring the impact climate change and rising sea levels have on coastal communities. Rising was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction. A limited number of copies of the book will be given away to participants.
