Society is divided by several key science-driven topics like; vaccines, climate change, and energy policy. The Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine(VASEM) is holding a virtual summit to rebuild trust in science, establish confidence in the scientific processes, and create a capacity for critical thinking.
The VASEM virtual summit “Building the Public Trust in Science,” is on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This summit is an opportunity to hear top experts from the fields of science, journalism, and policymaking. There will be many speakers at the event including, VPM News Director, Elliot Robinson. The summit is open to anyone and it is free to attend, but registration is required.
The summit will include:
• Keynote addresses from Sheril Kirshenbaum, NPR contributor, co-author of Unscientific America, noted science communicator, and public speaker, and Dr. Danny Avula, Virginia’s Vaccine Coordinator and Director of the Richmond City and Henrico Health Departments.
• A morning panel of nationally recognized experts in communicating science to the general public.
• Three afternoon breakout sessions focused on communicating three specific polarizing topics in science: climate change, vaccines, and energy.
