“Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History” is a New York Times bestselling publication by author, artist, and filmmaker Vashti Harrison. The first of six in her children’s book series, “Little Leaders” shines a light on the stories of forty African American women who helped to shape history. A combination of recognizable and lesser-known figures, Harrison’s narrative and illustrations highlight the brave work of women who were pilots, mathematicians, poets, abolitionists, and filmmakers — just to name a few.
Parents of younger book lovers will appreciate “Dream Big, Little One”—the board book adaptation of “Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History.”
Harrison was born in Virginia and earned her BA in studio art and media studies from the University of Virginia and her MFA in Film/Video from CalArts.
