VPM is thrilled to return to the Virginia Film Festival (VAFF) in 2022 to present the documentary HAZING from director Byron Hurt. The festival, which takes place from Nov. 2-6, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and is widely recognized as one of the leading regional film festivals in America.

The film explores the act of hazing itself, which is a far-reaching practice fueled by tradition, secrecy, groupthink, power and the desire to belong in social groups on college campuses across the country. Filmmaker Byron Hurt embarks on a deeply personal journey to understand the underground rituals of hazing, revealing the abusive lengths college students will go to fit in.

HAZING will be screened Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vinegar Hill Theatre and will be introduced by VPM Chief Content Officer Steve Humble. Attendees should purchase tickets beforehand.

Following the screening, Angie Miles, host of VPM NEWS FOCAL POINT will moderate a panel discussion with director Byron Hurt and film subject James Vivenzio.

On Saturday Nov. 5, VPM will serve as a sponsor for a workshop called The Power of Media, Storytelling and the Muppets of Sesame Street at noon. The session will examine how Sesame Workshop, the educational nonprofit behind Sesame Street, uses the power of media, Muppets, and storytelling to provide early learning for young children, reflect and celebrate their identity and deliver nurturing care to children and caregivers affected by conflict, crisis and displacement.

The workshop will feature a conversation between Sesame Workshop President Sherrie Westin and VAFF board member Marshall Persinger.

VPM is a premiere sponsor of the Virginia Film Festival.
