RVA's Got Issues host Rich Meagher interviews Jovonni Armstead for an episode of the podcast.

Since late May, VPM’s podcast RVA’s Got Issues (RGI) has been answering Richmonders’ most pressing questions about local politics and their wide-reaching effects on our daily lives. Now nearly at the midway point of the first season, the podcast is set to investigate a new batch of topics, from modern-day redlining to the upcoming elections.

We've already heard from so many smart and inspiring guests, but there's no danger of running out of issues in RVA!” said RGI host Rich Meagher. “We’re looking forward to bringing more great stories to our listeners - especially about a pivotal city election that will shape the future of the entire region."

RGI’s most recent episode highlights Richmond’s vulnerabilities regarding climate change and why people in some neighborhoods are suffering from hotter summers more than in others. Also, how does Startup Virginia help people turn their great technology ideas into businesses?

Listeners can expect a new and engaging crop of Richmond issues to be explored. Rich and the team will look at the state of the James River and how the city can fix its pollution problem, elections for Richmond Public Schools and coverage of the Richmond City Council.

Beginning with the next episode on Sept. 11 on the “State of the James River,” RGI will move to a weekly release schedule for its next eight shows as it transitions into covering the November elections. Starting Oct. 2, in addition to the podcast, RGI will feature video interviews with the five candidates vying to be Richmond’s next mayor. The first half of RGI’s first season dove into topics including food insecurity and affordable housing. The team also covered transportation, gun violence prevention, FOIA lawsuits & public records, year-round schooling and the Richmond ballet.
