Following an award-winning first season, VPM’s podcast Admissible: Shreds of Evidence is looking back at what’s happened since the final episode aired. A new episode titled “The Fallout” is now available for listeners to learn more about the most recent developments.
In 2023, VPM launched Admissible, which examines 13 wrongful convictions all tied to one forensic analyst, Mary Jane Burton. “The Fallout” centers on the case of Marvin Grimm, a man who spent 45 years in prison due to a wrongful conviction based on evidence presented by Burton.
The impact of Admissible is still being felt across Virginia in 2024. In January, a state scientific advisory panel recommended action on thousands of past criminal cases involving Burton, due in part to the allegations posed by the podcast. In April, the Virginia State Crime Commission was directed by the state to review all of Burton’s case files to determine the number of her cases that resulted in convictions, executions, exonerations and more.
Admissible has also been recognized with several awards since its premiere. In April, host and reporter Tessa Kramer earned the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s (VTLA) Excellence in Journalism Award for her reporting on the show.
