Learn how VPM served our communities in November 2024

Building off a very busy month in October, VPM was back in the community participating in and hosting events throughout November. To accomplish our goal of educating, entertaining and inspiring our communities, members of the VPM staff regularly engage with individuals and organizations that also seek to be a resource to all Virginians.

On Nov. 3, the Virginia Film Festival held a screening of Dementia and Living Well, the latest installment from VPM’s Dementia Documentary Series.

A few days later, VPM senior producer Clay Bretz attended Heartland Heroes: A Veterans Day Tribute at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business where the ‘Veterans’ episode of season two of Life in the Heart Land was screened. After the screening, Clay participated in a panel discussion about the episode and the challenges that veterans face after their service concludes.

On Nov. 14, VPM partnered with the YMCA of Greater Richmond,Little Hands Virginia and others to host an event called Advancing DEI Community Conversations. In addition to furthering conversations around DEI work, volunteers helped bundle diapers for Little Hands Virginia’s Diaper Bank.

The next day, VPM’s Education team partnered with the Children’s Museum of Richmond (CMOR) for a screening of the new PBS KIDS show Carl the Collector at their Sensory Friendly Nights. VPM and CMOR welcomed 80 children and their parents to watch the show and enjoy accompanying activities, including coloring.

On Nov. 21, VPM President & CEO Jayme Swain was part of a panel for PRSA Richmond that highlighted how local, nonprofit journalism is working to restore trust in communities and the challenges of navigating the changing dynamics of the media industry.

VPM continues to strive toward connecting with the members of our community to create a more informed and empathetic Commonwealth. If you have any questions about VPM’s work in the community, please contact Mary Arritt, VPM’s Community Engagement Manager.
